Boomer days

Sheesh–I am a boomer.  My birthday just kind of snuck up on me!  It’s really funny, since I feel about the same age as Jennifer Lopez looks!  I feel older than Britney Spears, but that is just because I am smarter than she is.  (I think!)

My age is evident when I hear so-called celebrities names and wonder “who the heck is THAT?”  And then I must ask myself “Are these people I should know about?  Is there some reason I should care what they are doing and whether they go to rehab or not?”

I have no idea who Paris Hilton is, what she does or why she should be more famous than anyone else.  She must be an heiress to the Hilton Empire of hotel chains.  But is that any reason that I should pay attention to what she is doing?   I think not.  She did not build the business, she was just born into it.  Is she supposed to be sexy?  I don’t think she is any more beautiful or sexy than a multitude of young women all over the world.  So why is she famous, and not Suzi-q down the road?

In my novel, “Mother’s Journals: parts 1, 2 and 3″,  I have tried to depict the adventures and mis-adventures that befall most women at one point in their lives or another.  The UNIVERSAL woman if you will.  These are the women who should be famous.  Each and every one of us!

It is quite true that what is inside us matters and is the stuff that gives us beauty.  Can we transcend the abuses heaped on us?  Yes, I believe we can and do.  From our experiences, we in turn teach those younger than us or less experienced how to avoid hurtful and harmful situations.  When we cannot assist in avoiding harm, we can at least commiserate and have either sympathy or empathy for their circumstances.

It would seem that people who are ugly inside have been shaped by their own experiences, and no matter how attractive they are on the outside, their bitter selves show through the facade.  And yet, often, people who are deemed ugly on the outside have an inner beauty that cannot be hidden.  They have allowed themselves to transcend the physical and have been shaped by their own experiences.

I can only hope that my aging outsides don’t overshadow my inner child.  With a little wisdom, I can still enjoy people around me and life in general.
